It is no secret that girls are not as “prized” as boys in India . In fact, one of my first blog posts was on female feticide in India (No Big Sin? ….Read if you are ready to weep) but reading this article in Yahoo just gave me the chills.
I am not going to excerpt from the article – It’s too horrifying for me as a parent of two girls to read it.
The gist of the article is that a manual laborer found bodies of about 300 fetuses outside a private clinic in Punjab and authorities believe that it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
When are people going to change their thinking? Maybe the government should spend the extra money it has on advertising about “Girl Power” instead of on promoting inter-caste marriages
What is the point of India progressing with huge malls,fly-overs,MNCs and fancy name brand consumer goods if the basic core thinking of the people is antiquated and dates back to 100 years old??
Only when girls start being treated as human beings and we stop these inhuman practices are we going to have true progress.
